The future of the global textile sector relies on innovation and responsible industrialization, but also on communicating differentiating values. It is in this context that the Portuguese case is particularly relevant, explained the president of the ATP – The Portuguese Textile and Clothing Association, Mário Jorge Machado, speaking at the opening of the annual AUTEX Conference (Association of Universities for Textiles). “The future of textiles passes through Portugal”, he stated.
In his speech, the president of ATP analysed the state of the Portuguese textile industry, but the goal was to make a bridge with Europe. The pandemic highlighted the pressing need to reduce supply chains, and the post-pandemic made evident the difficulties of supply shortages. In this context, according to Mario Jorge Machado, it is important that Europe puts the textile sector as one of its industrial priorities. Another issue addressed was the inseparable link between universities and training centres and the industry, allowing for an increase in the sector’s added value.
