The textile industry’s exports have gone back to a growing trend, having registered in October a homologous monthly increase of 1.6%. After August dragged the comparative numbers to red, September and October has placed them on the path to recovery. Overall, the exports to countries outside the EU have grown the most (4.5%), especially to the US, which registered the highest growth (7.7%).
After curating the data disclosed by the National Statistics Institute, ATP – Associação Têxtil e Vestuário de Portugal states that “the month of October registered a homologous monthly evolution of 1.6% in textiles and clothing exports, while September presented 1.1% growth”.
Therefore, according to the press release, “during the first 10 months of 2019, textile and clothing exports have reached 4,448 million euro”. By sub-sectors, “clothing and fabric accessories was the category that registered the highest absolute growth (+26 million, or +3.2% in proportion), followed by felts and string items with a 20-million-euro growth (+9.4%) when compared to the same period of the previous year”.
Analyzing by destination, the exports of textiles and clothing have risen 4.5% for non-EU countries, with the US at the helm of the ranking of countries with the highest growth (20 million euro and 7.7%). Within the European Union, France registers the best performance (15 million euro and 2.7%) followed by the Netherlands (9 million and 4.9%).
