LMA BETS ON NATURAL AND CELLULOSIC FIBRES

Alexandra Araújo, CEO of LMA, created “a new factory within the LMA”, entirely dedicated to the production of natural fibres of cellulosic origin. A strategy to respond to the demand for more sustainable materials that has been felt in the post-pandemic period, especially as a result of the relocation of Asian production. “Americans are coming to Portugal looking for technical textiles,” she says, highlighting brands like Nike and Adidas, which continue to find in  LMA a strategic partner.

The reason is simple: “We provide the service that the customer is looking for”, says Alexandra Araújo. “Our core business is personalization. Brands come looking for products that they can’t find in Asia or in Italy, that don’t make customizations. We are able to provide a service that the customer really needs, and not rigid collections. Exports are growing because we have a very strong capacity for resilience and adaptation”.

LMA is currently also studying the creation of products specifically aimed for padel, which poses challenges in terms of raw materials. “We have designers studying the athlete’s movement, understanding their perspiration, measuring the mesh resistance”, says Alexandra Araújo.
