PORTUGUESE TEXTILE COMPANIES IN STRENGTH AT CLIMATE SMART NETWORK

At least 416 companies in the national textile and clothing sector have already joined the Climate Smart Network, a platform created by the International Trade Center (ITC) that certifies the commitment of SMEs to the transition to low carbon emissions. The numerous list includes, among many others, 6 Dias, JF Almeida, Vilartex, Valérius, Troficolor, A. Sampaio, Trimalhas, TMG, TMR, Colmaco, Tearfil, Sidónios, and Somelos.

Launched during COP27, held in Egypt, the SMEs that joined the Climate Smart Network were certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), being able to access tools to help them reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Membership also implies a commitment to specific objectives in the environmental area and respective implementation deadlines while connecting with some of the World’s largest buyers looking for more sustainable suppliers.

Additionally, buyers looking to offset emissions can identify Gold Standard projects and go directly to the organization’s marketplace to purchase carbon credits. By so, “small businesses will be able to easily buy the highest integrity carbon credits on the market, to ensure their money is making a real impact where it matters most”, states Sarah Leugers, Gold strategy director.

According to the ITC, more than one million companies are already on a path to the carbonic transition. Through the platform, buyers can access reliable data about their supply chain and verify the credentials of potential suppliers.
