MARITA MORENO WINS TWO SUSTAINABILITY AWARDS

The Global Footwear Awards recognized the Michone Carob & Laureline Carob boots by Portuguese designer Marita Moreno. The boots won in the sustainability and sustainable manufacturing processes categories. They are a 100% vegan proposal from the brand towards innovation with natural biomaterials.

The main component of the boots is Alfarroba Tex – a biomaterial developed by Portuguese designer Mónica Gonçalves. The carob is a Mediterranean fruit, common in the Alentejo and Algarve and highly resistant to drought.

The organic cotton twill with mineral dyeing and a rubber sole made from banana fiber and coffee husks, produced in Portugal, are other materials used. The lining is antiperspirant and ecological, using recycling.

Since its inception, the fashion accessories brand Marita Moreno has had a unique and ethical perspective, in which the history of the products is fundamental to defining the brand as ‘slow fashion’. With endogenous local and national, craft and industrial products use, there is a constant concern to create and produce design objects with history used daily. Ethics, transparency in production, and social responsibility are intrinsic values of the brand.
