JF ALMEIDA SAVES SIX OLYMPIC SWIMMING POOLS EVERY MONTH

There are six Olympic pools: around 15 million m3 of water, equivalent to 60% of JF Almeida’s monthly expenses for that precious product, are already reused – which means that only 40% is water that enters the system every 30 days. The investment in the process was around 1.2 million euros.

“We have already managed to reuse 30% of the water used in dyeing thanks to other processes, but now we hope to reuse between 50 and 60% of the water that we are currently sending for treatment”, revealed João Almeida, CEO of JF Almeida, in a report by RTP1.

In this sense, treating water is synonymous with economic savings and sustainability, but also “not using natural water, such as streams or wells”. The objective of JF Almeida is, therefore, “to treat more water to recirculate the water to the factory”, explains João Almeida.

A 360 yarn created by the company using waste from the production process also allowed for a reduction in expenditure of two million m3 per year. The yarn is obtained through a shredding process, and “then we turn it back into a fiber and spin it again and, therefore, we are always reusing the product”, explains the CEO.
