U.MINHO AND MINISTRY OF DEFENCE HOST AUXDEFENSE CONFERENCE

The University of Minho, together with the Ministry of Defence, Fibrenamics and Sciencentris, is organising the 4th Auxdefense Conference from 20 to 22 June. The event focuses on advanced materials for defence, with air, sea, land and space applications. It will be three days of presentation and demonstration sessions at the Mélia Hotel in Braga, with around 150 participants from over 30 countries.

There are representatives from organisations such as the Norwegian Defence Estates Agency, Fraunhofer, Brazil’s National Institute for Space Research, Airbus Defence and Space, EMPA, CINAMIL, EMBRAER and the European Defence Agency.

As well as universities: Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Beijing Institute of Technology, University of California, University of North Carolina, Carlos III University of Madrid, Royal Military Academy, University of Rome, among others. Portuguese speakers will include the University of Minho, the University of Aveiro, the University of Lisbon, CITEVE, Piep, Inegi and Fibrenamics.

The influence of graphene sheet size on the development of advanced textile substrates with conductive properties for the defence area, research into eco-designed ballistic systems for lighter and more durable protection, and emerging materials and capacities for biosensors are three of the Portuguese studies that will be presented.
