Tintex Textiles and Sasia participated in the 11th edition of the RegioGreenTex Community Talks webinar series. “Building a Circular Textile Value Chain: Portugal GreenTex Hub” was the chosen title to highlight the projects being developed in Portugal.
Pedro Magalhães, Head of Innovation at Tintex, presented preliminary results on the use of recycled water in the creation of recycled knits. These knits are made from the company’s yarn waste, which includes different compositions, along with the use of natural dyes.
“At the moment, we are working on a pilot scale for water treatment. The next step is to scale up the process, which can be applied by different companies,” he stated, encouraging new partners to join the initiative to create circular value chains instead of linear ones. He concluded his presentation by addressing the challenges faced in the process.
Miguel Silva from Sasia explained how the company is improving its mechanical recycling process for complex textile waste. To achieve this, new high-precision equipment has been installed to handle different types of raw materials. “We are testing new blends and different raw materials, including recycled polyester and aramid,” he said, accompanied by images.
The energy efficiency of the new equipment stood out in the presentation. Thanks to this investment, the recycling company has reduced its energy consumption by 70%—previously using 76 kWh, now consuming only 22.4 kWh with the new machine.
The session featured other national speakers, with CITEVE providing an overview of the project.
