US home décor brand The Citizenry features a collection of French linen home textiles produced in Portugal by Sampedro. Sheets, cushions, throws and shower curtains are part of the brand’s range, which highlights the fabrics’ soft hand feel.
Based in Dallas, Texas, The Citizenry was founded in 2014 by Carly Nance and Rachel Bentley. The brand was created with the aim of offering an alternative in the home décor market, combining quality products with a positive social impact. Its proposition is built around the concept of sustainable luxury at fair prices, together with a close relationship with the makers responsible for producing its collections.
It is within this context that the brand presents its collaboration with Sampedro, highlighting not only the linen products in its range, but also the history and expertise behind Portuguese production.
Sampedro’s history dates back to 1921, when the Machado brothers opened the family’s first textile mill on the banks of the Vizela River in northern Portugal. Over four generations, the family has built more than a century of experience in the textile industry, maintaining a strong focus on the quality of raw materials and production processes.
The Citizenry devotes part of its presentation of the partnership to this history. After visiting several factories in Portugal, the US brand says it was particularly impressed by the Machado family’s experience and passion for the product.
In the products it sells, The Citizenry places the emphasis on the characteristics of linen and, in particular, on the experience provided by the fabric. The sheets are described as “supremely soft”, breathable and featuring the naturally textured appearance associated with linen. “Each piece is woven on a loom to provide the softest feel you will ever experience,” says the brand. Each piece is OEKO-TEX certified.
