Texla Portugal with new capabilities

Swedish-owned Texla will invest, once again, in its Portuguese factory, at Carregal do Sal, endowing it with new capabilities that will allow the production of engraved laminated fabrics for the auto industry – namely for the use in car seats.

“Portugal is of strategic importance for the Texla group. The team at our Portuguese factory possesses a vast know-how and an excellent capability of developing relations of trust that are of vital importance for this business”, discloses Pär Palmgren, President of the Texla group, in a dialogue with João Correia das Neves, during the last edition of TechTextil.

With headquarters in Gothenburg and factories in four countries – Sweden, Belgium, Czech Republic and Portugal –, Texla holds its Portuguese unit in high regard, which doubled its business volume from nine to 18 million euro in the course of the last two years. This boom in sales is the outcome of a series of investments that increased the number of workers from 16 to 50 people and the covered area of its industrial facilities from 2000 m² to 3200 m².

“We have room to continue growing”, challenges Carla Maltez, adding that the Carregal do Sal unit, which only performed cutting of synthetics and fabrics, was equipped two years ago with the technology that enabled the making of skin colours – thus supplying the fabric for the T Roc seats.

Volkswagen (the AutoEuropa factory in specific), PSA and Volvo are some of their final customers of the laminated fabrics that Texla Portugal produces at its unit in Carregal do Sal
