On 17th October, Tearfil will be in Paris at the International Fairtrade Textile Forum, an event organised by Max Havelaar to discuss the key challenges and opportunities within the textile and clothing supply chain.
Cristina Castro, the company’s Director of Quality and Innovation, will be speaking on the panel titled ‘How can the textile industry raise social and traceability standards?’. With two decades of Fairtrade certification, the spinning mill stands as an exemplary participant at this forum focused on fair and sustainable trade.
“I’ll be discussing the role Fairtrade certification has played at Tearfil, how the certification’s chain of custody works, the commercial advantages we gain from this certification, among other points,” explained Cristina to T Jornal.
“Tearfil adopted Fairtrade certification to ensure better prices, improved working conditions, and a fairer deal for farmers and workers in developing countries,” she said, considering Tearfil participation in the forum an important milestone.
“We believe this will open new partnerships and also help to promote our products further afield. At present, over 50% of our products are certified, and our goal is to focus on differentiation,” she added, expressing her ambition to increase this percentage.
