Trainer brand MoEa has launched a new model incorporating a Tearfil yarn made from pineapple fibre. The GEN6 upper is made in Portugal with a composition of 70% Lenzing Zero Lyocell Carbon Neutral and 30% Anam Palf Vegan Certified Pineapple Leaf Fiber.
On average, the production of GEN6 releases 4.81kg of CO2, 84% less than an animal skin trainer, according to the product description, which means a saving of 6kg of CO2 for every kilo of yarn produced.
In February this year, Tearfil announced a partnership with Ananas Anam for the research and development of Pinayarn, for the optimisation of Anam Palf pineapple leaf fibre for the dry spinning process.
The partnership has helped Tearfil to develop sustainable yarns made from Anam Palf in closed-loop production, with zero waste and zero use of chemicals.
