Scabal buys 60% of CBI2, in Mangualde

The Belgian group Scabal acquired from CBI a 60% stake in CBI 2, the first custom-made industrial factory in Portugal, operating since early 2018.

The creation of CBI 2, by the initiative of Francisco Batista (the leader of the CBI clothing group, which closed last year with a turnover of around 30 million euros and employs 780 workers), soon aroused the curiosity of businessmen from several nationalities, who were all trying to secure a stake in the company’s capital. Scabal took the lead, and the deal was closed at the end of this year’s first quarter.

With 100 workers transferred from the mother company, CBI 2 produces 60 tailor-made suits per day, and is investing to double its production capacity by the end of 2020. The Belgian shareholder gets 70% of the company’s production.

Francisco Batista, CBI leader, took over Amma in 2017 following a deal with major creditors, securing employment for 160 workers and getting the company’s facilities, production equipment and brand (Carlo Visconti).

Founded in 1938 and headquartered in Brussels, Scabal – Société Commerciale Anglo Belgo Allemande Luxembourgeoise produces and retails men’s suits, having stores in major world capitals such as London (Savile Row), Paris, Brussels, Geneva, Shanghai, or Seoul. Marlon Brando wore a Scabal suit while giving his outstanding performance in “The Godfather”.
