Savana Shoe has launched a new line of trainers incorporating the B.Cork coating developed by Tintex Textiles. The water-based coating contains surplus cork granules from the cork production industry.
“This collaboration is a great example of the kind of synergies that should exist in the industry and that enhance not only the product of both companies involved, but also open doors to new markets,” Tintex told T Jornal. “Having a final piece, i.e. being able to present the application of the product, in this case in a trainer, is also valuing the end consumer, who ends up being the most important element and the reason for these partnerships,” Tintex adds.
The material has been perfected over the years and is now performing, in the company’s words, “excellently”. “It’s a coating that has already been extensively tested in terms of abrasion, flexion and adhesion,” states Ricardo Silva, CEO.
B.Cork is an alternative to leather and its main qualities are elasticity and flexibility: “the material doesn’t break or bend”, as well as being water and oil repellent and biodegradable. The Vila Nova de Cerveira company is already working on making it even more biodegradable. In 2018, the development was honoured at the ISPO Textrends Awards in the Best Product category.
