RIOPELE: THE USE OF RENEWABLE ENERGY ALREADY REPRESENTS 60%

With the aim of achieving carbon neutrality by 2027, Riopele announces progress in energy consumption ensured by renewable sources, which currently represents 60%. “Riopele’s carbon footprint fell by 12% in 2022 compared to the previous year.” And the company already has goals for 2023.

“For 2023, a new reduction is estimated. This time between 12 and 15%”, says the fabric company in a statement. The biomass plant installation contributed to these results “with a 65t/h capacity in the first quarter”. On the horizon, the construction of a new solar plant is also planned: “with a production capacity of approximately 6mW, in the second half of 2023”.

This investment allows the company to total “5.7 GWh of renewable energy production per year”, a value that brings the Pousada de Saramagos company closer to its commitment to being a ‘Zero Carbon’ company. “As part of the Sustainability Roadmap, Riopele is involving the entire value chain to drive environmental progress”, concludes.
