RENEWABLE SOURCES ENSURE 50% OF RIOPELE’S ENERGY

Renewable energy sources ensure, in 2023 and for the first time, more than 50% of Riopele’s energy. The commitment to become operationally carbon-neutral by 2027 is closer: its carbon footprint decreased by around 12% in 2022 compared to the previous year.

For this purpose, a new solar park installation with a production capacity of approximately 6MW will be decisive. These results “represent a combined effort from all sectors of the company that have committed themselves to ensure that all the operations of the company have zero environmental impact in four years”, explains José Alexandre Oliveira, president of Riopele, in a statement.

The company’s commitment aligns with the “Sustainable Development Goals” established by the UN. It involves significant investments in the transition to renewable energy sources, in the development of new products, and in processes to reduce emissions.

“At Riopele, we work to eliminate our carbon footprint and for a more sustainable future”, says José Alexandre Oliveira. “Businesses have an important role in combating climate change, and we are committed to achieving our carbon neutrality as quickly as possible. We feel it would be symbolic to achieve it in our centenary year”.

The almost century-old company based in Vila Nova de Famalicão has been investing in the digital transition and sustainability fields to maximize the positive environmental impact and create a model to be followed by other companies.
