RDD Textiles, Pangaia, and MTIX have been working to eliminate the wet pre-treatment process through MLSE laser technology. The result was a pre-treatment process for cotton that saves more than 87% of electricity and 98% of water usage compared to conventional pre-treatment dyeing processes.
“MLSE technology will revolutionize the textile industry, avoiding the wet pre-treatment of fabrics, an inevitable process in fabric dyeing, saving resources such as water, chemicals and energy and minimizing costs”, said Ana Tavares, CEO of RDD, in a statement.
“RDD and MTIX teams are also working on functional finishes for knitted fabrics, such as durable water resistance (DWR), a possible application with the same plasma technology. This type of finish typically uses harmful chemicals, and MLSE technology use can avoid it”, added.
Presented at ISPO, this innovative approach aims to save water and energy and process chemicals efficiently. “Dyeing presents one of the most pressing problems, but by working with MLSE technology, we have collectively demonstrated the potential to substantially improve its footprint, specifically in the dye preparation phase. We look forward to continuing this work with MTIX and RDD to drive change in dyeing practices across our industry,” said Pangaia.
