Performance Days adopts textile-to-textile recycling as central theme

2 Move Garments, A. Sampaio & Filhos, Comfysocks, Dune Bleue, LMA, NGS Malhas, Sancar Socks, Sidónios Malhas and WAT will exhibit on 18 and 19 March at Performance Days, taking place at Messe München, within the framework of the Sustainable Textile & Apparel From Portugal project promoted by ATP – the Portuguese Textile and Apparel Association. This year’s edition focuses on the theme “Textile to Textile”, placing textile-to-textile recycling at the centre of the international debate on circularity and sustainability.

“Recognised as the reference platform for sourcing functional fabrics and accessories,” Performance Days positions itself as an opportunity for direct contact between manufacturers and buyers, as well as a space to discover the latest trends and innovations in textiles, yarns, finishes and accessories for functional sportswear, workwear, sports fashion and athleisure, the organisation clarified in its latest statement.

On the official fair website, several images of products from participating Portuguese companies are already featured, some selected by the organisers themselves. These highlight the national offering within the Focus Topic “Textile to Textile” and showcase solutions aligned with the principles of circularity.

Within this theme, collection and sorting operators play a decisive role in the viability of textile-to-textile recycling, as they determine whether used textiles will be transformed into new fibres or ultimately become waste.

The focus of this edition explores the possibilities, challenges and innovations shaping this decisive stage, from more efficient collection systems and intelligent sorting technologies to collaboration across different sectors of the value chain.

The shift towards T2T recycling models is being driven by the new European regulatory framework, particularly the Ecodesign Regulation for Sustainable Products, which encourages the design of items that are more durable, repairable and recyclable. In this context, several Portuguese companies have been investing in design for longevity and in the incorporation of recycled raw materials, as well as in the development of the Digital Product Passport (DPP), strengthening transparency throughout the value chain. Ecomodulation is also emerging as both a pressure factor and an opportunity, with multiple examples of mono-material garments, recyclable products and items containing recycled content expected to be presented.

In addition to the companies participating in the collective action organised by ATP, IMF Zip, Jway Seamless, Nextil Group, TMG Textiles and Trimalhas will also take part in the fair independently, reinforcing the Portuguese presence at an event considered strategic for the functional and sustainable textiles segment.

Although the official dates of the fair are 18 and 19 March, 17 March will be dedicated to “Day 0”, an initiative designed to create a moment of pause and collective reflection for the sector. According to the organisers, this format aims to provide space to question conventional business logic and address sustainability at its roots before products, strategies and decisions take shape, positioning itself as a starting point for honest dialogue, collaboration and the transition from ambition to real impact within the industry.
