Monteiro Fabrics Combines Durability with Sustainable Innovation to Consolidate Growth

Monteiro Fabrics is presenting its new collection Amazónia at Paris Design Week until September 9, as part of the Re.Made in Portugal Naturally showcase by AICEP. The line of coated fabrics was inspired by artist Nina Andrade Silva’s immersion in the Amazon rainforest, reflecting its vibrant colors, rich textures, and the sensory intensity of the ecosystem. “The palette and tactile qualities of the collection were designed to inspire hospitality, retail, and residential spaces,” emphasizes the company.

In an interview with T Jornal, Luísa Sousa highlights the importance of the French market for Monteiro Fabrics’ strategy: “The French market is very important to us; it’s a market we are investing in. This is an opportunity to expand our network of contacts. It’s our first time exhibiting here, and a chance to gain more recognition for our creativity.”

Part of the Monteiro Ribas group, the company represents four generations of expertise in durable, low-maintenance products with excellent colorfastness. “We primarily work with upholstery, so our products must meet the highest standards of resistance, whether to light or abrasion. Durability makes our products suitable for high-traffic areas, such as hotels, which seek differentiated environments.”

In terms of durability, Monteiro Fabrics offers a 10-year warranty—one of its main selling points, which also carries environmental benefits. Additionally, the fabrics come with certifications such as fire resistance and antibacterial finishes.

Sustainability is another core pillar of the company’s strategy. Beyond durability, Monteiro Fabrics has invested in incorporating alternative raw materials, including forest and food industry residues such as chestnut husks and olive pits. This approach began with the BioShoes4All project, initially focused on footwear, but ultimately led to innovative solutions for textiles. “We are working to maximize the recycled content in our products.”

The strategy is yielding results: Monteiro Fabrics expects 12% growth in 2025, supported by a commercial effort to strengthen its international presence. Currently exporting to 35 countries, the company aims to go further.

“We have made a huge commercial effort to expand, because we know our technical quality is strong, but it wasn’t visible externally. We have a strong investment in innovation and development; we have also invested in digitalization to monitor processes in real time, reduce waste, automate workflows, and have more reliable and organized information. We have further digitalization plans for the future, including tools that will allow us to forecast and increase energy efficiency.”
