MODATEX IN PROJECT FOR GENDER EQUALITY

Modatex is participating in the IgualPro project, under the responsibility of the Commission for Equality at Work, which seeks to promote gender equality in the access to professions. Through this participation, the training centre wants to show that the textile industry is not exclusively for women or men, but rather open to all who are interested in clothing and fashion.

Together with eight other entities, Modatex will prepare a study on the gender stereotypes that exist in the professions, and present solutions to solve them. The goal is to encourage young people to follow their vocation, and not choose the area according to gender predominance.

The project, which is expected to last for three years, is currently in the initial phase of data collection. About this participation in IgualPro, José Manuel Castro, director of Modatex, says that “vocational training centres will be able to play a more active role in identifying professions where stereotypes still exist, and develop strategies that promote greater clarification for young people. The reduction of gender stereotypes in the labour market involves not only the existence of normative frameworks and awareness, but also ensuring that people who apply to the labour market have the necessary qualifications”.
