MASSAL TEXTILES: ‘MADE IN GUIMARÃES IS SYNONYMOUS TO EXCELLENCE’

Têxteis Massal was at New York Market Week last week, presenting its collections that emphasise simplicity, elegance and attention to detail. The returning feedback is positive: ‘The fair went well, the number of scheduled visits exceeded expectations,’ says Eva Ferreira to T Jornal.

The sales manager went on to emphasise that one of the most positive aspects of taking part in this edition was the fact that Made in Portugal is already a guarantee of quality. ‘I would dare say more: Made in Guimarães is synonymous with excellence in the production of home textiles and is increasingly the favoured choice in global markets,’ she says.~

The company has prioritized the American market for 2024 and is determined to enter the upper and upper-middle market. ‘Our added value is the attention to detail in all our collections and the fact that we allow each customer to customize their collections. For example, we can use any design to create embroidery, quilting and lace with the same design/theme. This way we can help increase sales with totally original and personalized items that all coordinate with each other,’ she explains.

In terms of materials, and following the principles of sustainability, Têxteis Massal is focusing on micromodal for its collections. ‘Micromodal is considered more sustainable than cotton because its origin is renewable (it is made from cellulose extracted from beech trees), the production process uses a closed loop system (almost all solvents and chemicals used are recycled and reused) and it is more efficient in land use (because beech requires less production space than cotton).’

Têxteis Massal’s main customer is still Italy, with an 80 per cent share. ‘We need to diversify, hence our clear focus on the American market,’ admits Eva Ferreira. The first half of the year was positive for the company, but she recognizes that the sector needs to ‘work twice as hard to have the same level of orders’.
