The Techtextil 2024 Innovation Awards had been given and among them is the ‘Smart Roofs System’ project developed by Saint-Gobain Portugal (Weber), Têxteis Penedo, CITEVE, CeNTI and ITECONS.
The development made it possible to create a “new polymer-based aqueous membrane reinforced with an intelligent textile substrate and coupled humidity sensing and active heating”, Augusta Silva, innovation manager in textile print and coating at CITEVE, explains T Jornal.
This project is not only innovative but also sustainable, she emphasized. “The water-based SRS polymer membrane has a lower environmental impact, emitting less CO2 and VOC (80 per cent reduction) when compared to solvent-based membranes.”
“Being honoured with an Innovation Award from Techtextil, the leading international trade fair for technical textiles and nonwovens, shows that our innovation is among the best in the world at a top level,” she states.
Sandra Ventura, R&D director at Têxteis Penedo, told T Jornal that “the project had a partnership that went very well, resulting in a differentiating, innovative product that adds value. In the end, the prize gives us great visibility, of course, but also to Portugal.”
