Fibrenamics has concluded today its internationalisation mission at Techtextil, where over four days it showcased its capabilities in the field of fibrous materials, always with a pragmatic approach focused on transferring knowledge to the business ecosystem.
João Bessa, R&D+i manager, guided T Jornal through a visit to the stand, presenting several solutions developed by the organisation. These include protective clothing against chemical and technological agents, ballistic vests and helmets, and other applications that demonstrate the potential of fibrous materials not only in defence, but also in the automotive, construction and medical clothing sectors.
In the latter segment, one development was presented that allows monitoring patients susceptible to pressure ulcers, as well as innerwear solutions with high liquid absorption capacity, suitable for situations such as incontinence, toilet training or menstruation.
The demonstrations did not stop there. Fibrenamics also highlighted projects linked to the valorisation of marine resources and the development of new fibres from agroforestry waste, with potential applications in various types of apparel, footwear and home textiles.
In the construction sector, João Bessa highlighted a panel with capacitive sensing technology that, when approached, can trigger a light without physical contact. He also referred to the development of composite rods to replace structural elements such as steel, offering a lighter alternative. These materials are also being developed to integrate sensors capable of detecting structural deformation through embedded conductive components.
In the automotive area, Fibrenamics presented multilayer fibrous structures, highlighting ongoing work in developing recycling processes for these materials, as well as new formulations that facilitate the separation of different layers.
The pace of the fair remained steady over the four days, allowing the innovation institute to strengthen contacts and international visibility.
Currently, Fibrenamics is in an expansion phase. After consolidating its position nationally, the objective is now to reinforce its international presence. In terms of scale, it has more than 500 partners and 45 formal associates.
In addition to the solutions presented at Techtextil, the team has been developing other projects in the areas of camouflage and low-signature materials, while also accumulating strong know-how in composite materials.
