CITEVE AND RIOPELE WERE IN TURIN WITH THE WASTE2BIOCOMP CONSORTIUM

Coordinated by CITEVE, the Waste2BioComp Consortium met in Turin on the 11th and 12th of July for the second technical meeting of the partnership, which Riopele is also part of. The purpose of the meeting was to analyze the developments and activities carried out within the framework of the project.

The second Waste2BioComp technical meeting happened at the premises of one of the thirteen partners, Propagroup SpA. The Waste2BioComp project aims to demonstrate the scale production of bio-based products and materials as alternatives to replace traditional materials with a high environmental footprint, using innovative manufacturing technologies in Textiles, Packaging, and Footwear.

In the specific case of Textiles, Waste2BioComp uses a new technology, electrospray, which will be adapted to new biobased materials to produce fibers, nonwovens, and nonwoven coatings based on PHA (polyesters produced in nature). The developed materials will potentially be used for other applications in the textile value chain, such as fashion or medical textiles.

Coordinated by CITEVE, the Consortium was one of the first R&D projects approved under the Horizonte program and has 13 entities from the European Union and Switzerland: INESC TEC, University of Corunha, Riopele, nora systems, Propagroup SpA, Hochschule Kaiserslautern, Magellan Circle, PILI, gr3n SA, MTEX NS, Leibniz-Institut für Verbundwerkstoffe GmbH and KYOCERA NIXKA Inkjet Systems.
