Casa da Malha: “We Believe the Industry Should Be Collaborative”

“It is through collaboration, proximity, and flexibility that Portugal stands out,” says Casa da Malha, which concludes its participation at Première Vision Paris today. The company brought to the fair everything from basic jerseys and terry knits in organic cotton to more complex, specialized knits developed with emerging fibers.

“We believe the industry should be collaborative,” the company emphasizes, citing the various partnerships it has been developing. Among the highlights is a collaboration with Spiber to create a 100% Brewed Protein knit, as well as a capsule collection in CleanBamboo, developed in partnership with PLNTmatter, Acatel, and Silsa.

Cláudia Costa, from the development department, also points out new knits made with recycled polyester that incorporate CarbonSmart technology. “This technology uses biological fermentation to convert CO₂ and other industrial residual gases into 100% recycled carbon ethanol, which is then used in polyester production,” she explains.

She also highlights two strategic projects: the Product Digital Passport, which the company can already present via a QR code, giving access to the location of all production stages as well as data on energy, water, chemical use, and emissions; and Digital Product Creation, achieved through digitizing knits using DMIx tools.

“Our goal is to provide a library of our products, enabling a digital knit creation workflow for the brands we work with, eliminating the need for most physical samples and significantly reducing the time required for development.”

With this participation at Première Vision, themed around savoir-faire, Casa da Malha reinforces its position as an example of technical knowledge, craftsmanship, and innovation.
