BORGSTENA INVESTS 3.6 MILLION TO MAKE MASKS

Specialized in manufacturing fabrics for the auto industry, which has ground to a halt, Borgstena is now taking on mask manufacturing.  With models already approved by CITEVE, the company is investing 3,6 million euro in new machinery, and will also increase its production area up to 2.800 m2. This will enable the return of 225 of Borgstena’s 600 furloughed workers, said the company in a press release.

“Expecting a slow recovery of the auto sector, and in an attempt to avoid eliminating jobs while attending to the current demand of personal protection equipment, in April the company began to study the possibility of mask production, and then advanced to the purchase of productive equipment, an amount of 3,6 million euro”, informs Borgstena.

In the same press release, the company explains that “the new investment includes the production of Meltblown TNT (Non-Woven fabric), the main raw material used in mask production – both surgical and FFP masks –, the capsule injection for FFP masks and also the increase of Borgstena’s productive area up to 2.800 m2”.

This way, Borgstena predicts that by July it may “already own an installed monthly capacity of 12.000.000 surgical masks, 3.000.000 FFP masks and 200.000 reusable masks”.

With an export record of 85 million euro in 2019, Borgstena registered a 60% drop in sales during April and May, when compared to last year’s equivalent period, states the company.
