ARPITEX MOVES TOWARDS ENERGY SELF-SUFFICIENCY

Arpitex is making significant investments in renewable energy to achieve its target of 75%-80% responsible energy supply. “We are nearing the completion of the third phase of photovoltaic panel installation, and once finished, we expect to generate 50% of our required energy from solar power,” announced Pedro Pimenta to T Jornal.

The project has taken longer due to the need to replace the entire factory roof. “It’s 2,250 m² of roofing,” explained the General Director, recalling that 52 years ago the roof was entirely made of asbestos, now replaced with sandwich panels. However, the work is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

“There are European grants available for decarbonisation and the purchase of photovoltaic panels, but they don’t cover roof replacement, so the majority of this investment is being made without European funding,” he highlighted.

In recent years, the clothing company has also invested in more energy-efficient machinery, particularly in the areas of laundry and cutting. “We replaced the diesel boiler with an electric one,” he added, concluding with the announcement that they are now GOTS certified. “2024 was also the year we completed our GOTS certification,” he explained.
