RDD wins 1st Prize at Munich Fabric Start

RDD (Valerius group) won the Munich Fabric Start Innovation Award with a 100% tencel fill heat-sealed mesh. This is yet another proof that the Portuguese textile and clothing industry is at the forefront of research and development worldwide, after also having won three Techtextil Innovations Awards (Tintex, Penedo/Sedacor and UBI) in May, at Frankfurt.

Among the 100 samples at contest, and with an almost unanimous vote – 11 out of the 12 judges – the mesh that received the first prize from the Munich Fabric Start jury is a 100% tencel filled thermocollage, fully developed by RDD, and it is patent pending.

On the two outer faces are two knits manufactured with the Valerius group’s 360 project thread, made from 60% tencel and 40% recycled cotton thread. It was an auspicious debut for the young RDD, which in Munich, for the first time, submitted a product of their own to a jury of a major international fair.

“It’s a knit designed for outerwear, so it has the advantage of being very light, comfortable, and at the same time breathable and heat retaining. It’s a differentiating product,” explains Elsa Parente, RDD CEO, who received the award this morning at the Munich Fabric Start Keyhouse from the hands of the show’s general manager, Sebastian Klinder (in the photo).

This was the second time Elsa Parente received an innovation award at Munich Fabric Start – the first time she was with Tintex.
