Paula Borges is going to expand its operation in Baião

2020 will be the year of the great expansion of Paula Borges’ industrial operation in Baião, which employs 32 people and will be equipped with a cutting table and larger facilities.

Born in 1983, in Maia, where the headquarters are still located, and specialized in women’s clothes manufacturing, Paula Borges is seriously considering transferring its centre of operations to Baião. “Here in Maia we have no room to grow. In Baião it is easier to hire since there are more people eager to learn”, explains Paulo Faria, 48, Paula Borges’ designer and commercial director.

The scarcity of specialized labour is a critical factor for Paula Borges. To overcome this problem the company has chosen to internally train seamstresses and ironers, benefiting from the cooperation with Modatex – who undertakes indoor courses in Baião – and with Paula Borges’, the founder of the company, 50 years of professional experience.

This summer, Paula Borges has invested 200 thousand euro on a third cutting table and on the remodelling of its Maia factory industrial layout. “We have to be capable to respond to the clients’ pressure, who are raking in more and more orders. Things are going very well this year. We are hoping to close 2019 with a 10% growth, compared to 2018, and a business volume close to 2.8 million euro”, says Paulo Faria.
