Experience and youth side by side at Portugal Fashion

On the first day of Portugal Fashion, which took place yesterday, March 14, some of the most important Portuguese designers shared the catwalk with the young creators of the Bloom segment.

It was up to Maria Gambina to close the event’s first day, taking Nancy, her new Autumn/Winter collection, to the stage.

Inspired by the ski resorts and with a strong retro feel, this collection was developed in partnership with Tintex, which provided sustainable knitwear with creative coatings, LEMAR, in charge of the technical materials, RDD, with its delicate fabrics and innovative finishes, and TROFICOLOR, with denims.

Burgundy, white, yellow, coral and luminous red, with touches of orange, green and light blue, made up the chromatic palette of a collection that made snow play its motto.

Before it was Hugo Costa’s turn to present “Maybe we’ll be together again”, a phrase written on the remains of the Berlin Wall that became the inspiration for this collection, a reflection on “limited freedoms, raised walls and extreme attitudes” of today’s world.

A collection that reflects a certain disenchantment with the present, and where the denim, the austere looking fabrics and the sombre colours were the ones chosen to colour the deconstructed silhouettes, inspired by the 70s and 80s classics.

Júlio Torcato, who in Portugal Fashion’s last edition announced that he would abandon the traditional fashion shows, fulfilled his promise and presented “File # 001 – Wake UP”, a multimedia performance that drew attention to the extinction of animal species caused by human action. Made up of ten coordinates, the creator’s autumn-winter 19/20 collection was made using sustainable materials such as ecohide and recycled polyester.

The event began at 3pm, with the new Portuguese fashion talents, who filled the runway until 6pm. The nine finalists of Modatex Fashion Design course and Sofia Silva, Ashma Karki, Rita Sá, Carolina Sobral, Arieiv, João Sousa and 0.9 Virus were the young designers who dazzled the Alfândega do Porto, where the event was held, with their creativity and irreverence.

Mara Flora and Maria Meira followed, at 7:00 p.m., and an hour later the creations of Daniela Pereira showed themselves on the catwalk.
