SONAE OPENS DESIGN CENTER IN BARCELONA

The Sonae Design Hub, a design centre envisioned by Losan, is up-and-running in Barcelona. Besides designing for this Spanish brand owned by Sonae, the other companies of the group, such as MO, Zippy and Salsa, will also have their products outlined at the Hub, although their Portuguese design centres shall be maintained.

“MO will have a few designers in Barcelona, while Zippy and Salsa will now have a new spot in town to occasionally work at the new Sonae Design Hub”, explains Vittorio Verdun, Losan CEO, during an interview for the Spanish newspaper Modaes.es.

Losan also opened a new space in Madrid, Spain’s capital, after having transferred its Caspe (Zaragoza) logistics centre to Portugal, which meant moving 70 workers, states the newspaper.

Last year, Sonae concentrated all of its 400 workers in Spain within a single building in Madrid. The Iconic building (photo), a single location with 6.700 m2, gathers several businesses until then spread out through different locations, as a part of the company’s effort to reassert their presence in the Spanish market.

Losan currently employs 160 workers in Spain, distributes children’s, men’s and women’s clothing, and is owned by Sonae since 2015. In 2020, the company is planning on opening seven ‘corner’ stores at El Corte Inglés, as well as investing in online sales, while also consolidating recently conquered markets: the US, Canada, Russia, Colombia and Ecuador. “We also have plenty of opportunities to expand in European markets where we still have a weak penetration”, concludes the company’s CEO.
