Socorte is turning so vertical

Back in 1979, when it was founded by Manuel Miranda, Socorte only worked with their customer’s manufacturing material, cutting and transforming it into the accessories they needed. The biasband was their speciality. Forty years on and three generations later, the company’s scope is widening substantially.

The most recent leap forward was taken two years ago, when Socorte invested around 400 thousand euro on renovating facilities (including a showroom and a complete makeover of the customer service area), and purchasing looms that enable the company to buy yarn and produce the bands internally – thus guaranteeing added quality and efficiency.

When it comes to the offer, several new products, more sophisticated and complete, such as waistbands, reflective ribbons or Velcro, have joined the traditional biasband.

Manufacturing, home textiles and auto textiles are the sectors in which Socorte finds its customers. The company is based in Porto’s Industrial Area and employs 32 people.

“We are very hard to beat on quality and delivery speed”, ensures Pedro Miranda (photo), 31, grandson of the founder.

Socorte closed 2019 with a turnover of 1.5 million euro, of which roughly 50% came from direct exports (Spain, Greece, Sweden and the US are the main markets) – a percentage that rises up to 90% if we include indirect exports.
