Minister of Economy at ITMF Opening

The minister of Economy, Pedro Siza Vieira, will preside the official opening of the ITMF Convention, the largest textile congress in the world, taking place in Porto from October 20th to 22nd. Beside the minister, will be also present the presidents of ATP and ITMF, respectively Mário Jorge Machado and Kihak Sung.

A sign of the growing flare and attention that made in Portugal has caused worldwide, ATP managed to secure for Portugal, over the last few years, the three biggest international congresses of the sector: IAF (Internation Apparel Federation), Euratex and now the ITMF Convention.

The congress, which gathers more than 300 delegates from 45 countries in Porto’s Sheraton, will focus on “Digitalization and Sustainability: Its impact on the Global Textile Industry”. The agenda, on for three days, includes visits to Famalicão, Matosinhos and Guimarães.

The Portuguese textile and clothing industry exports over 5.3 million euro, which is 10% of Portugal’s total exports, contributing with one billion euro every year for the country’s commercial trade balance, guaranteeing 138 thousand direct jobs, especially around the country’s coastal North, where an articulated and dynamic cluster, constitutes today the biggest and best textile region of Europe.
