WEARRX: THE PIJAMA THAT IS ALSO A MEDICAL DEVICE

A pyjama that is, simultaneously, a medical device and an aid to caretakers and people suffering from illness. This is how Trotinete introduced WearRX, the innovative model developed in cooperation with Universidade do Minho.

Made from an elastic fabric, it stimulates the blood flow, reduces the development of pressure ulcers and features a collection of strategically placed pockets to perform treatment in a less intrusive fashion.

“We like to be bold and to get out of our comfort zone”, declares Matilde Vasconcelos, founder and director of Trotinete, about the company’s bet on the WearRX, a new clothing article that aims to replace the traditional gowns used by patients during hospital stays.

Developed in partnership with the Textile Engineering Department of Universidade do Minho, the “pyjama” is made from a fabric that includes lycra, which adjusts to the body and facilitates mobility. It has a low number of seams and in the points of higher pressure (such as the ankles) it is designed to promote healthy blood flow, delaying the development of pressure ulcers, also known as bedsores.

The garment’s design aims not only to improve the living conditions of patients, but also to aid caretakers and medical professionals. It is easier to wear and has a collection of pockets that enable an easy interaction. A slit within the sleeves, for example, eases the administration of injections. “The patient feels less exposed, which makes the situation not only more comfortable, but most of all more dignified”, explains the company’s director.
