TEMASA’S NEW GOAL IS TO DOUBLE EXPORT VOLUME

The textile company Temasa – Têxtil do Marco, SA, now run by Andreas Falley – who recently purchased the company from the Sonae Group – aims to double its exports, which should correspond to 50% of their total sales volume, in the near future. So far, sales abroad constitute 20% up to 25% of the business volume.

“We will work the exporting markets more in line with the products we sell”, or in other words, preferably European countries where the textile businesses thrive. Spain, Italy and the UK are the company’s main destinations.

Business strategies will also be realigned, revealed Andreas Folley in a statement to T International, in order to invest in making products with more added value – enabling the growth of business margins – in detriment of volume. The bets are placed on baby and children’s “but also adult men and women’s clothes, which shall become 20% of our production”.

This way, the new (and only) shareholder of Temasa hopes that the company recovers quickly back to positive results, after having registered a slow-down in business in 2019.

“Temasa closed 2019 with a turnover very close to the six-million-euro mark”, just one year after registering a turnover of seven million euro. However, the business growth is not the main concern for the new director: “we want to bet on margins”, he said.

Either way, the company will not ‘break with the past’: “Sonae still needs Portuguese production, so they will keep close ties to our company, although this time as a customer. Temasa’s know-how makes many products for Zippy and MO, but also the school uniforms for Colégio Efanor (Sonae’s school) and the work uniforms of the employees at Worten, Bagga, MO and Zippy.

Temasa employs 82 people, which Andreas Falley believes is the adequate number for the company’s needs. The entrepreneur is also connected with Ribera, a company that specializes on manufacturing lace and embroideries.
