NÜWA RESORTS TO CROWDFUNDING TO CONQUER NORTHERN EUROPE

Nüwa, the most recent investment of Confeções Calvi, founded in 1977, has just started a crowdfunding project at Indiegogo with the goal of extending their sales into Germany, the UK and Northern Europe – countries that increasingly prioritize sustainable production, one of the pillars of the Portuguese brand.

After getting support from the project Norte Digital, Nüwa is now searching for capital to invest on the brand’s notoriety. The brand makes sustainable sportswear by using 100% recycled raw materials – scraps of cotton and polyester from recycled plastics.

Another identifying feature of Nüwa is its social commitment: 1% of the brand’s profits is donated to AMURT (Ananda Marga Universal Relief Team), who is involved in the reconstruction of the areas destroyed by the cyclones that hit Mozambique, among other initiatives.

Nüwa was started by Catarina Lopes at Confeções Calvi, based in Vizela, her family’s vertical company. Part of the business rationale behind the launch had to do with endowing Calvi’s production with added value. The company employs 130 workers and the entire production – its 11-million-euro turnover in 2018 – was exported, mostly to Spain.
