NGS MALHAS GROWS 10% AND REACHES 10 MILLION MARK

2019 was a year of round numbers for NGS. The textile company from Barcelos, specialized in knitwear, has registered an increase in sales of around 10%, reaching the 10-million-euro mark in revenue. Technical and sustainable fibres are assuming an increasingly decisive role. “Every season we develop something new, and currently all new products are either technical or sustainable textiles”, explains Nuno Cunha e Silva, CEO of the company.

The company has crossed the two-digit mark last year. Of these 10 million in sales, the CEO believes that all NGS knitwear is ultimately destined for the external markets. “What we produce is 100% exported, 70% indirectly and 30% directly”. France, Italy, the UK and the US are among the company’s main markets, which is a supplier for brands such as Burberry or Coach.

Nowadays, half of NGS’s catalogue already features the motto “knitting a green future”, with which the company distinguishes its ecologically responsible solutions. These can be produced from recycled or organic alternatives, cotton, polyester, wool, polyamide or other raw materials.

Another of the company’s bet is sports fashion, through the development of high-performance items. For example, the knit selected by the ISPO Textrends forum last year. An article developed for sports trousers, made from 15% lycra, great elasticity recovery and endowed with an anti-bacterial function.
