MIHI, THE BRAND FOR MASTECTOMIZED WOMEN

Bikinis and swimsuits that fuse a beach style with the need of comfort of women who have gone through a mastectomy. This is the brainchild of the Portuguese designer Rute Vieira, founder of Mihi, the swimsuit brand that wants to be “Breast Cancer Friendly”.

“We wish to contribute positively to the balance, serenity and self-esteem elevation of each and every woman”, challenges the designer. Swimsuits with added support, adjustable to different silhouettes, or bandeau bikinis that enable the use of prosthetics, are some of Mihi’s suggestions, providing an answer to women searching for a new wardrobe after breast cancer treatments.

The idea came up when Rute Vieira underwent a mastectomy herself, and was compelled to renovate her wardrobe, especially the swimwear. When she realized that the market was dominated by Nordic brands, the designer decided to create her own models, more in tune with a Mediterranean aesthetic.

To its social concerns, Mihi also associates environmental responsibilities. Every item is made in Portugal with Econyl knit, a thread produced out of fishing nets left at sea.
