FARFETCH joins THRIFT+ and enters second hand fashion

Used clothes may be worth credit at Farfetch. The Luso-British luxury fashion platform joined efforts with the second-hand clothing website Thrift+, and together they have launched a new service in which consumers can donate their items in exchange for a Farfetch coupon.

“We were aware that our consumers like to clean their wardrobe by throwing away the clothes they no longer use. So we thought that they would like to do it in a way that makes them feel better”, detailed Thomas Berry, sustainability director at Farfetch, in a statement to the online British news website Retail Gazette.

To settle the issue, the platform is now launching a new service. Consumers will be able to order a special donation bag online (like in the picture below) in which to put their used clothes in. Farfetch takes care of the pick-up for free and the website Thrift+ photographs the items and places them up for sale online.

When sold, the item’s revenue is split three-ways: one part for the platforms’s expenses; another is given back to the consumer in Farfetch credit; and the third is donated to charity.

Besides the sustainability aspect, the project also aims at creating a connection between consumers and charitable institutions. Right now, Thrift+ works in cooperation with 160 thousand associations (all in the UK), and those who donate their garments will be able to pick their cause of preference.
