CARLA PONTES DESIGNS UNIFORMS FOR HOTEL IN CHINA

Located beside the Great Wall of China, the San Sa Village Hotel is the most recent client of Carpo Studio, a studio that the designer Carla Pontes shares with the architect João Pontes.

Drawing inspiration from the hotel’s location and aesthetic, Carla Pontes used all-natural materials, rustic looks and neutral tones to create four uniforms lines that the hotel will present their guests with.

“Despite having chosen a Portuguese designer to develop the uniforms, I was asked from the first moment to combine my minimalist aesthetic with a typical Chinese language, hereby enhancing the atmosphere of a small traditional village, which the hotel’s architecture suggests”, shares Carla Pontes.

“I have studied the Chinese cultural aesthetic, the ergonomics of Oriental bodies – which have different dimensions than the European ones – and the real needs of the workers in that hotel. The uniforms would have to adapt simultaneously to the gardener, the receptionist and the cleaning lady. I sought to develop a super functional and versatile aesthetic that would fit both employees and customers”, the designer adds.

Born in 2016, the Carpo Studio of Architecture and Design develops projects in the fields of housing, tourism and social equipment (architecture), as well as collaborations in the areas of performing arts, visual identity, institutional uniforms and design services. The studio also develops the clothing brand Carla Pontes.
