Ana Campos, from the Escola de Moda do Porto, and Maria Gaudêncio, from the Faculdade de Arquitectura de Lisboa, were the winners of the 2019 2nd edition of the PFN New Talents Contest.
The two young stylists were voted by the jury in Category I, for young people with less than two years of training, and Category II, for students with more than two years of training, and both stood out by the skill with which they worked the fabrics supplied, respectively, by Model Malhas and Paulo de Oliveira.
The work and creativity of 18 young designers, from 11 Portuguese fashion schools, competed in a show that transformed the Matosinhos Market into a huge runway. Before an audience of 200 people, the contest’s nominees presented their pieces, manufactured only with fabrics made by Portuguese companies.
To select the winners was the jury – made up by designers Júlio Torcato and David Catalan; the Bloom platform coordinator, Paulo Cravo; Alexandra Oliveira, from the brand Pé de Chumbo: the Matosinhos City Hall representative, Paulo Gomes; and by António Gonçalves, T’s journalist –, who not only evaluated the creativity and aesthetic boldness of each of the items, but also the technical skill and the adequate use of the raw materials supplied by the companies.
Besides the PFN New Talents Award, the two main contenders will now have the opportunity to have their work featured on the Bloom platform, the space for young talents at Portugal Fashion.
